Hello, my name is Paul Grant and I am '330 Images'.  I reside with my wife Davina and dog Coco, in the very beautiful Vancouver, BC in Canada.  Originally from the UK, I had a passion for art and photography very early in life.  Through school I had hoped to have followed a career path that would encompass my love for the creative side of my life.  Instead I found myself following my practical side and entered into an engineering apprenticeship with the hope of a graphic art job at the end.

Several years later, having earned my engineering stripes and no sign of a career in the arts, I got approached by a motorsports team to come work for them.  That was the start of a very special journey that took about 12 years to complete.  I got to work on rally cars, endurance sportscars, Touring cars, and open wheel race cars all the way up to Formula 1, where I spent 3 years as a F1 mechanic.  This period in my life allowed me to see, not only the wonderful world around me, but also the fanscinating world within motorsport.  The glitz, the glamour, the wonderful locations, these all conjured up wonderful imagery and fed my need for visual entertainment.  Unfortunately, I could not mix business with pleasure and the opportunity the take photographs were few and far between due to the demanding nature of the work, but it was enough the plant a seed of interest.

In 1997  I decided to leave the motor racing world and persue a life in Canada.  For the first few years life was busy trying to adapt to a new culture and establishing ourselves in a new country.  But after a while we began to feel settled and started to look around us and realize what a great place we were in.  For a while I couldn't find much to fill the void left by motor racing as Vancouver really isn't a motorsports culture.  But soon I was to learn that there was more here than I realized.

As a child I had a fascination with the whole American hot rod scene, I guess it was the colors and graphics, but I discovered 'Hotrod' magazine and the sport of drag racing as well.  I was a regular visitor to the great Santa Pod Raceway growing up with heros like Raymond Beadle and his 'Blue Max'.  During my career in motor racing I lost touch with the drags along with my photography.  Once I had immigrated I soon I learnt that this assault on the senses they call drag racing was right here on my doorstep, livin' large at Mission Raceway Park just outside of Vancouver.  It wasn't long before I became a regular visitor to MRP and soon after that I realized I could mesh my enjoyment of this sport with my creative side.

Now I am seen regularly shooting at MRP and also at selected races south of the border.  I try and shoot from as many different angles as possible and try and capture the many different aspects of a drag race.  But most commonly you will seem me on and around the '330' foot mark.  My work is begining to be seen on websites, calendars and in publications, I hope to, one day, be able to encompass more events and different motorsports, but for now I hope you enjoy my drag race images.

Thanks

Paul.
